A car can overheat no matter what time of the year it is, and when it does it can cause damage to the engine if it's not taken care of in a timely manner. If you're ever in a situation where your car begins to overheat you should follow these tips:
- Turn off the engine. Pull over to a safe place and open the hood to let the engine cool down.
- Don't try to remove the radiator cap, the pressure could cause it to blow off.
- Don't try to touch or fix anything until the engine has cooled off completely.
- Once the engine has cooled add some coolant.
- Do a visual inspection of the hoses to check for leaks and/or blockages. There is normally a reason why your car is overheating.
- Once you're able to start driving again closely monitor the temperature gauge. If the engine starts running hot again, pull over to a safe place and turn the engine off.
- You may need to call roadside assistance if you can't keep your car cool enough to get it to a service center.
