Hiding just beneath the Crosstrek's hood is a 2.0-liter "boxer" four-cylinder engine. Good for a healthy 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, this four-cylinder couples with all-wheel drive. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on the 2.0i and 2.0i Premium trims, while a continuously variable transmission is optional on the Premium and standard on the Limited.

The Crosstrek also impresses from a fuel economy perspective. When had with the CVT, for instance, it'll return a robust 29 mpg combined (26 city/34 highway).
