Subaru Legacy Works After Sitting in Lake for Three Months

Subaru drivers in the Fort Collins area know their vehicles last a long time. Many who look to buy a new Subaru here at Dellenbach Motors usually keep their older model. Some have racked up well over 100,000 miles and their loyal drivers continue to use them , or pass down to children with confidence, knowing the vehicles won't die out easily. If you want one example of that, here's a story about a 1986 Subaru Legacy in Finland that will certainly amaze you.
This 26-year old model of the Legacy had been dormant and in storage for three months, though not where you'd typically find a vehicle. Instead of leaving the Subaru in a garage or covered in a tarp outside, the owner put the car in a lake. That's right, a lake.
Submerged in 12 feet of water for three months in a bitter Finnish winter, you'd think any car would welt under the pressure of the water, but not this Subaru Legacy. When the owner took the Legacy out of the lake in the spring, he found that the vehicle was virtually damage-free, with no cracked windows, and no dents in the structure. After clearing water from the gas tank and oil chambers, the Subaru Legacy started without any difficulty on the very first try.
To recap, a 26-year old car submerged in a lake for three months came out with no damage and started perfectly fine. Simply amazing stuff.
Of course, we're not going to recommend that you store your Subaru in any sort of water for the winter, since there is a huge risk involved, but this is really a testament to just how durable the vehicles are, thanks to great parts and routine checkups with our Subaru service and auto repair specialists.
