Subaru Develops Rear-Wheel Drive Coupe with Fellow Japanese Automaker

You may have already heard about the upcoming Subaru BRZ, but in case you haven't we'll fill you in, since we here at Dellenbach Motors have an exciting update to share with you! The BRZ is a new, rear-wheel drive coupe that's being developed by Subaru and a fellow Japanese automaker who uses an Oval T as their logo. That's right, the automaker best known for its symmetrical all-wheel drive is actually setting it aside for now, opting for a rear-wheel drive mode. This prospect is a bit shock at first, but exciting when you think about what it could mean for the vehicle's acceleration and fuel economy.
We were thrilled to hear about the project, and we've been eager to hear as many details as possible concerning its development. Now, Car Magazine has snagged some pictures of a BRZ prototype model, sporting a psychedelically swirled exterior mask to disguise it. The vehicle features an integrated back spoiler, twin bazooka exhausts, fastback raked rear, and an elegant cab-backwards stance, though there's more to this vehicle than just looks.
Those other defining features of the Subaru BRZ, unfortunately, are going to be a little hard to determine at a glance, but the Japanese automaker is currently hinting at some new information coming to light at the the Tokyo Motor Show this November. For now, we can only hope that the rumors of a 200bhp engine under the hood are true, though it has been confirmed that the vehicle will measure in at 4191 mm long and 1770 mm wide making it a comparatively slim two-seater.
"The BRZ arrives in UK dealers in spring 2012, priced at around £25,000, wobbling exchange rates notwithstanding,"1 said Car Magazine. Many are looking forward to finally seeing the BRZ production model. However, few will actually be able to call it their own. Positioned in the market as an "exclusive, rare-groove sports car choice" 1, the new Subaru will see numbers of around only 500 a year.
We can understand, however, that this model may be a little too far separated from the dependable, safe, and efficient models that they're used to seeing in the new Subaru lineup. That's why we fully encourage you to have a look at our online inventory and showroom pages if you'd like to learn more. Once there, you'll be able to compare models, like the Subaru Legacy, Subaru Forester, and Subaru Impreza WRX; the best ways to either finance or lease them; and how you can keep them well maintained through our incredible parts and service and repair departments.
Or, if you'd rather opt for a more hands-on experience with your next Subaru, then don't hesitate to arrange a test drive at 3111 S. College Ave. Fort Collins, CO 80525 today. Test drives can be arranged via our simple contact form or by phone at (866) 963-5689.
